Filter expert distinguished for Blue.on, a resource-conserving alternative to screw-on oil filters
The filter specialists from Münster have once more come on top: Its Blue.on filter, a product that the company developed as a sustainable alternative to screw-on oil filters won the Partslife Environment Award presented in Wiesbaden.
The idea behind Blue.on was to develop a sustainable oil filter concept that can be applied to the conventional screw-on filter interface. At present, the world’s roads are populated by approximately 800 million vehicles that are equipped with screw-on oil filters. These filters require that the entire filter unit be replaced during an oil change and involve the undesirable need to dispose of the remaining oil as hazardous waste. This necessity puts an enormous strain on the environment as it causes waste volumes in the realm of 500,000 t of steel (50 Eiffel Towers) and 142,000 t of waste oil (one Suezmax tanker).
This was the seventh year in which the environmental managers of Partslife awarded their prestigious prize. The illustrious jury who scrutinized all submissions to pick the winners included the aftermarket specialist and GVA chairman Hartmut P. Röhl, VREI CEO Thomas Fischer, Dr. Harald Weigand, professor at the University of Applied Sciences Mittelhessen and Volker Angres, head of the ZDF environmental contents team and TV moderator. They are all experts who know about sustainability projects in the corporate sector.
The award was presented at a glamorous gala with MCs Claudia Kleinert and Volker Angres. Hengst announced that the prize money will go in each shares to the Peter Maffay Foundation and Verein Herzenswünsche.
Oliver Nabrotzky (Group Vice President Aftermarket) is presented the Partslife Environment Award in Wiesbaden.
The Blue.on filter consists of a lifecycle lid and a base with integrated filter bypass and check valve as well as an exchangeable filter cartridge. Rather than exchanging the entire filter unit, only the cartridge needs to be replaced. The old cartridge can be incinerated without harm to the environment.
